Gwendolyn Hales Phillips, age 64, died
Friday, June 24th surrounded by her
family. She was a devoted wife of 38 years and a
loving mother and grandmother. She is survived
by her husband, Mitchell Phillips; son, Matthew Phillips; daughter,
Kathryn Thigpen; brother, Amos Hales; and grandchildren Mary
Elizabeth Thigpen and Edward Phillips.
Gwen loved her Lord and her family, and she
was a faithful member of New Hope Primitive Baptist
Church. She was known for her extreme kindness,
love, and also her many talents which included smocking, tatting,
cooking, sewing, and taking pictures.
Gwen was born to Horace and Sadie Pearl
Hales in Alexander City, AL. She graduated from
Benjamin Russell High School in 1965 and Blue Mountain College in
1969. She became a junior high science teacher
and later a 4-H Agent before dedicating herself to full-time
parenting and homemaking.
Funeral services will be held at New Hope
Church in Boaz, AL on Tuesday, June 28 at 11:00
a.m. Visitation will be Monday, June 27, from
6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Albertville Memorial
Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be
made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) in honor of
Gwen.
