Elvin "Al" Claude Lyles

Elvin Claude Lyles, 82 Elvin (Al) Claude Lyles, 82, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away, Friday, April 20, 2018 at Friendship Haven Nursing Home. A time of gathering for friends and family will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8 pm at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, Texas 77546. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 1:00 pm, at Albertville Memorial Chapel, 5011 US Highway 431 South, Albertville, Alabama 35950. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm just prior to the service. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Boaz, Alabama. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Al was born July 23, 1935 in Alabama City, Alabama to Woody and Lillie Lyles. He had 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Daphne Jill Denzler and husband, Theodore (Ted) Denzler and granddaughter Abigail Jordin Denzler of Friendswood, Texas. Sisters- Helen Abney of Attalla, Alabama, Patricia Bowen and husband Johnny Bowen of Gadsden, Alabama, Linda Burgess and husband Norman Burgess (known as just " Burgess" by Al) of Crosby, Texas. One living brother- Gaither Lyles of Altoona, Alabama and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his lifelong friend and mother of his daughter, Ellen Register, of Defuniak Springs, Florida. Numerous extended family members. Al served 2 years in the US Army. He worked as a auto mechanic for over 40 years and owned numerous shops throughout his life. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. Al loved collecting ball caps and was always seen with one on his head. His favorite hat was his "Dino" hat given to him by his special grandson Dino Patelis. Al's granddaughter (Abigail) included him in her daily activities such as watching her at dance and cheer practice, also playing board games and taking short strolls around the neighborhood in the evening. She learned how to take care of a grandpa. She will never forget the short 3 years that she got to spend with him. Special thanks to Friendship Haven Nursing Home employees, the Kindred Hospice team and Norman and Linda Burgess. They all helped him have a much happier and healthier life.
